Not Just a Service—A Lifeline

The Guardians Grow Charity is a grassroots, person-led crisis support and advocacy service—built by the community, for the community.

Who We Are

What is The Guardians Grow Charity?

The Guardians Grow Charity is an organically grown, community-led gateway service that has evolved from a single act of activism to a vital, trusted charity. Founded over ten years ago by one person’s determination to stand up for those without a voice, we became a formally constituted community group in 2017 and a registered charity in 2020. Our roots are in listening, learning, and adapting alongside our communities, bridging gaps where complexity and tick-boxes often fail people. Many of us have lived experience of the struggles we support others through—mental health challenges, financial hardship, homelessness, or domestic abuse—and we combine that with professional expertise to make real change happen. We are proud to be embedded in our communities, to see challenges as they emerge, and to respond with compassion and flexibility.

We are more than a place to turn to; we are a place to be seen, heard, and supported.

The Values That Guide Us

We don’t just believe in these values—we live them. They shape how we show up for others, and how we treat every person who walks through our doors.

Respect

We see the worth in every person. We listen with empathy, meet people where they are, and honour their experiences—without judgment.

Integrity

We do what’s right, not what’s easy. We act with honesty and transparency, even when no one’s watching.

Difference

We embrace compassion as a radical act. We welcome diverse stories, identities, and lived experiences. Everyone belongs here.

Ambition

We are driven by the belief that transformation is possible—for individuals and for entire systems. We don’t settle. We build futures.

Independence

We’re not afraid to challenge injustice. We use our voice to speak truth to power—and help others find their voice, too.

Mission, Vision & Purpose

Why We Exist

Our Mission

“To walk alongside people—not just when it’s easy, but especially when it’s not.”

We exist to serve individuals and communities by offering the kind of support that wraps around a person, not just their problem. Through innovative projects, crisis intervention, and long-term care, we empower people to heal, grow, and thrive in their own time and on their own terms.

Our Vision

“A world where every person—regardless of their circumstances—can live with dignity, connection, and hope.”

We work toward a future where poverty is no longer a barrier, where no one is left behind, and where communities are resilient, inclusive, and rooted in justice. Everyone deserves to feel seen, safe, and supported. That’s the world we’re helping to build.

Our Purpose

“To be the hand that reaches out when others turn away.”

We exist to meet people in their most vulnerable moments. Whether facing financial hardship, homelessness, domestic abuse, violence, mental health struggles, loneliness, or systemic exclusion, we respond with compassion, not bureaucracy. Our purpose is to close the gaps in support systems—and to stand in them until real change takes hold.

Mission, Vision & Purpose

Support That Meets People Where They Are

Our work is built on compassion, persistence, and deep listening. We respond with empathy and tailor our support to each person’s situation.

Crisis Support & Safeguarding

Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We make relevant referrals to safeguarding professionals when concerns arise involving children or adults, and we work in partnership with those agencies to ensure the individuals we support are safe. If they wish, we continue to offer ongoing advocacy and support throughout the safeguarding process, providing calm, consistent care and a trusted point of contact in times of crisis.”

Emotional & Mental Health Support

We are here to walk alongside people experiencing emotional pain, including those living with suicidal thoughts, grief, or long-term mental health challenges. We offer gentle encouragement, practical information, and referrals to trusted services when needed—helping each person feel supported and seen on their path to healing.

Domestic Violence Survivor Support at The Iris Project

The Iris Project is a survivor-led, peer-driven initiative that offers a safe, inclusive space for individuals and children recovering from domestic abuse—including familial domestic abuse, which is often misunderstood and under-supported. Through group support, creative workshops, practical help, and one-to-one advocacy, we aim to break down barriers and amplify the voices of survivors. We recognise that healing from domestic abuse takes more than a short-term program—it’s a journey that deserves lifelong empathy, connection, and real listening.

Loneliness & Isolation

We recognise that loneliness and isolation can impact anyone, regardless of age or background—and that feeling lonely and feeling isolated are different but equally serious challenges. At Margaret’s, we create a safe, inclusive space where everyone is welcome. Whether someone is elderly, living with mental health struggles, a young person feeling out of place, part of a marginalised community, or simply needing human connection, our doors are open. Here, people can sit together at our long table, share a meal, play a game, or simply talk and be heard. We know that belonging and purpose are essential, and we strive to create an environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued—where they’re no longer alone, but part of a family.

Cause for Concern Referral Model

Our early intervention framework identifies people who might be missed by statutory systems—especially when complex needs and overlapping challenges can be confusing. We know that individuals don’t always recognise the seriousness of their situation, or don’t feel confident sharing it in short appointments. That’s why we listen deeply and raise ‘cause for concern’ referrals when we see red flags—offering crucial early intervention and a chance to prevent crisis before it escalates.

Community Advocacy & Voice Work

When someone feels voiceless, we sit alongside them—listening first, and encouraging them to find and use their own voice. We offer advocacy when it’s needed, but our focus is always on enabling people to stand firmly, speak for themselves, and thrive without creating dependency. By ensuring everyone feels seen, heard, and valued, we help them remember the strength they already have.

Work-Life Experience

We welcome students and professionals—including those from Warwick Medical School, social work, and other fields—into our safe, inclusive spaces to learn about real-world social inequalities. By listening to and engaging with our community members in a relaxed, respectful environment, they gain valuable insight into the importance of holistic care and social prescribing. This exposure helps them understand the difference compassionate listening can make and broadens their view of what true care can look like.

Plate of Plenty Social Supermarket

More than food, the Community Cupboard is a safe, inclusive space offering affordable groceries and a warm welcome. It’s based on a social supermarket model—by referral only—so that everyone who comes to us is also offered practical support, guidance, and connection. We work alongside each individual to understand their needs and ensure they have access to resources that can help them move forward. Our aim is not just to provide food, but to create a doorway to hope and self-reliance—always treating people with dignity, never as a handout.
